I currently read a passage by William Bradford from the Plymouth Plantation which was a thirty year journal of events. While reading this excerpt I realized were faced with many adversities while coming to America. They had to withstand the hate they were shown from the Native Americans, the problems of finding an adequate place to settle in and learning how to survive on this newfoundland. Even though they had a rough going the Puritans still persevered with the help of their God.
impressive passage:
"And here is to be noted a special providence of God, and a great mercy to this poor people, that here they got seed to plant them corn the next year, or else they might have starved, for they had none nor any likelihood to get any till the season had been past, as the sequel did manifest. Neither it is likely they had had this, if the first voyage had not been made, for the ground was now all covered with snow and hard frozen; but the Lord is never wanting unto His in their greatest needs; let His holy name have all the praise. I liked ths passage the most because it was kind of contradicting in my opinion. First they steal corns and beans from the Native Americans whom they call savages and dislike. Yet they give honor thanks to God for their stolen goods. To me I find that to be ludicrious but may be they're just so religiously inclined they don't realize that what they did was wrong. Even though they would have died without the morsels of food they should have repented for their wrong doing.
political cartoon:
In the passage Plymouth Plantation the Native Americans were very raged with the Puritans invavded theur land which is similar to us. When illegal immigrants come to our counrty we dont really accept them. The reason being is becasue they are basically free to work for what we call "cheap labor" which takes away jobs from our citizens. And in ths cycle food, health and shelter can be jeopardized. The Puritans did they same exact thing we they first came to Cape Cod; they disrupted the Native Americans way of life, food conservation and their mental being.

Hey! To start off, I am going to be commenting about your political cartoon. First off is spelling errors which is a common mistake we all do but can be fixed easily. Another is being in past tense. This is something Mrs. Micallef likes us to do and I dont know if she has explained to you yet; it makes your paragraph shine more (?). As for the topic sentence, it has to be more of a direct and broad statement that can be analyzed off of. You are not supposed to use "In the passage". For example: "The Economy in present-day America is in such poor condition, that once immigrants, thinking to enter the US realize this poor economy, they retreat." (this was mine for my own political cartoon) Once you get a good topic sentence, you can branch off into supporting detail, analysis, and concluding sentence. In the end, the paragraph should be six sentences. I hope you take this feedback well as a learning tool to grow in your writing. Other than that, your font is easy to read but maybe I can help you with backgrounds when I get the chance in class to make it more patriotic? Anyways I think you know what needs to be done and hope your finishing product ends well.

ReplyDeleteI really like the emotiont hat comes through in your blog. It would be helpful to include a copy of the political cartoon as well. We wrote a thesis statement in class - do you have it? b/c this would be perfect to add in first.
